Gilbert Midwood Croshaw

Hi,

I heard stories of my great grandfather, Gilbert (also known as Gillie), being away from home a lot but I never found out why-whether it was for a job or for the war.

He was born in 1912 and died in 1960 in Beverley. He was married to Rose Alice Goffin.

Any info would be really useful, thank you!🙂

It seems he was a general labourer at the outbreak of war in 1939, engaged in building air raid shelters in Hull.

The photo you mentioned, would that mean he served in the war as well as building air raid shelters or would this have been a uniform he'd have worn when building the shelters?

It's battledress. So he must have been in the army or possibly Home Guard, after September 1939.
