I am stuck.  I have an ancestor named Daniel Morrell. I believe he was a Baptist Minister.  I don't know his birth information or his death information.

On the parish record for St. Martins, Birmingham, Warwick, for his daughter Hepzhibah marriage in 1839, he is listed as her father and his occupation as minister.  It did not say deceased so he may be on the 1841 census record. Can someone please look for me?!

Everything else I know about him:

Daniel Morrell married Ann Chapman on Oct. 3, 1791, St. Phillip Birmingham, St. Martin Church.  Daniel Morrell was listed as a widower at the time of this marriage.

The only children I know of for Daniel Morrell and Ann Chapman are Theophilus b. 1798 Bedford,  Hepzhibah b. 1801 Bedford and Jabez Morrell b. July 19, 1806 Bond St. Baptist, Birmingham, Warwick.

Daniel Morrell married Mary Durrad on Aug. 24, 1786 Saint Martin, Birmingham.  I think this is the same Daniel Morrell. They had children christened at the Cannon Street Meeting House - Baptist, Birmingham: 1) John  Morrell b. Jul 8, 1787 2) James Morrell b. Oct. 24, 1788 and 3) Benjamin b. Jul 21, 1790. This Daniel Morrell was also listed as a widower at the time of the marriage to Mary Durrad!

I  found a death reference for a Mary Morrell. She died at the right time for Daniel to have remarried to Ann Chapman. She seems to have died very soon after giving birth!

Warwickshire Burials.
1. Name Mary MORRELL Alias – Buried 17 Aug 1790 aged – Abode – in county of – status – buried at Birmingham, Cannon St Baptist in county of WAR

This is all I have.  Any help would be very appreciated!!!

I have just come across your 2005 post asking for information on Daniel Morrell - a Baptist Minister.  You may have made more progress in the last 6 years, but I can add the following:-

My great-grandfather (Jesse Hill) married Hannah Sophia Morrell who was a daughter of Theophilus Morrell (b.1798), son of the Daniel that you are asking about.  I have found references to a Daniel Morrell recording the births of children to families attending Holy Cross Baptist Chapel in Clent (on border between Worcestershire and Staffordshire) - he recorded 7 births there between 1817 and 1836.  However, a number of other men also registered births there, so I surmise that he was not the full-time Minister there, but maybe performed this task as a visiting Minister.

I have found a death certificate for a Daniel Morrell giving a date of death of 2nd June 1838 and giving his occupation as 'Baptist Minister'.  The place of death was in the Stourbridge RD, which would fit well with him taking services at Clent.  However, he cannot be the man you are looking for as his age at death was only 44; it is possible that he was the eldest son of Daniel Morrell and Ann Chapman.

It may be that there were two Daniel Morrells who were Baptist Ministers; certainly the part of the Morrell family that I have researched were very active Baptists.  However, I have so far not proved any connection between the 'Stourbridge Daniel' and my ancestors.  Sadly, I have found no record of a Minister called Daniel Morrell in the archives of the Baptist Union of Great Britain in their Didcot offices.

Not sure if this helps or confuses!

Hi John,

Thanks for your message!

I do believe the Daniel Morrell who died in 1838 is the son of Daniel Morrell and Ann Chapman and that both Daniel Morrells were baptist ministers.

I will send you a personal message with my e-mail so we can share more information!

Regards, Susan

Hi Folks, :)
The morrells mentioned in the previous posts are all connected. Its a pity you are not on 'Ancestry' as I have all the details on the Morrells on my tree.  Daniel  Morrell  senior was born circa 1763  was in London 1785 then Birmingham (Shoe maker)  then Bedford - again London then Brierley Hill Stourbridge. Was baptist minister at the Brettel lane chapel It was here he baptised Daniel junior (Adult baptism). he then fell out with members of his church and moved to Dudley chapel where he died 1835. The records of Dudley chapel and Brettle lane are held at Dudley Archives. The records of the Cannon st and Bond street chapels are held at Birmingham archives.

Children by Mary Durrad , John, James Durrad, Ann, Benjamin.

Children by Ann chapman (she died Dudley/Stourbridge1848) Daniel, Cornelius, Theophilus, Hephzibah, Jabez.

Daniel Morrell junior was for a short  time Baptist minister at Holy Cross Clent. Died 1838 Brierley Hill Stourbridge.

Cornelius was also a minister and a 2 page obituary can be found in the baptist union handbook. Cornelius died in Wolverhampton 1877.
The Baptists left tons of records. I hope soon to visit Oxford University to find the origins of Daniel Senior.  Hope this helps? contact me if you require further help,

regards, Nigel ;)

PS they are also connected to the Dancer family. Betsy Dancer was the death informant for Dan Morrell juniors  death 1838.
There is a 3rd Dan Morrell 1831-1894 (buried Brettel lane) son of Theophilus 1799-1861

Sue you will have to PM me your email as the system they have on this forum will not let me send you a PM in reply, apparently (I think) because I have not made enough posts, no proper explanation is given.  Not come across this on any other forum, I am not impressed >:(
