Well there weren't many Clara Budds around!
The last Godfrey-Budd birth seems to be in 1890. It's possible that Clara was older than she admitted, even to her husband. She seems to have been older than him, anyway.

The birth of a Clara Agnes Huggins Dunsdon was registered in Wallingford in Q4 1851. Mother's maiden name is blank in the GRO index. She seems to be called Clara Agnes Huggins in the 1861 and 1871 censuses and her place of birth is given as Crowmarsh. Unfortunately there's a very plausible looking death for her in Turville, Buckinghamshire, in August 1877.
