........ being taken into care and being sent for adoption to Australia as Children.

Leslie died in Sussex in 1984 and there is no sign of Albert in Australia using those middle names.

'Adoption' is a bit of a misnomer for the fate of the children who were sent to Australia.

the Father of the boys may not be either of those two men but I thought there may be reports of their addresses.

There is a newspaper snippet dated 8th November 1917 which is a memorial of his death in November 1914. It is is from his family - mentions Father, Mother, brothers and sisters with a possible address 42 Cowper Street Luton. I can’t see it all as I don’t have a subscription and sometimes the extracts move from one article to another.

There is a report of Herbert’s death in 1915 with an address of Langley Road for the parents   :-\

This would need checking in case it is not the same family.

I was trying to clarify the address.

My answer was based on information given by the poster on another thread, not an assumption.
Just trying to offer some explanation which has lead to the info being provided of Leslie's death in Sussex in 1984, but he could have returned from Australia.

Wow! thanks to all for the input and investigations, some great results to digest!

A bit of background;
Leslie Spalding Bates ‘as the story goes’ went into care along with his brother Albert Spalding Kitchener Bates, not sure what age? when Ada could not support them, the Father/s never known, (when Leslie looked before his death he was sad to see no father recorded on birth cert)
At some point both came out of care, Leslie married a Patricia Gleeson and settled in Shoreham by Sea having a family.
It was thought Albert had been placed to emigrate to Australia although no records can be found of him or his Mother Ada at present? Name change looks a possibility too.

I have ordered certs;
Ada birth cert
Leslie marriage cert
Leslie death cert

Thanks again to all, I really appreciate it and could not have got this far without the help
John

Park Place was a set of 16 addresses that were between 70 & 72 Park Street....

At #16 in the 1911 Luton Directory is Hugh Bunyan
At #16 in the 1917 Luton Directory is Mrs Bates !

Seems Luton Central Library local studies section has these....
Directories and Almanacs
• Luton directories, 1903 - 1975
• Bedfordshire directories, 1785 – 1940
• Bedfordshire directories on CD-ROM: 1830, 1847, 1864, 1869, 1877, 1890, 1898
• Luton News almanacs, 1900 - 1916
• Telephone directories, Luton and surrounding area, 1961 to date

Regards John

Fantastic, thanks for that John, just what I was hoping for.
Regards
John

I have seen them so they moved sometime between 1914-1919, I think.
There is an Annie Bunyan at 15 Park Street next door to the Plowmans, I posted earlier.

In both 1911 & 1917 Luton Directories at 42 Cowper Street, Luton is Samuel Bunyan & as per the censuses also had sons Herbert & George.

There's a newspaper report in Luton Reporter of 30 Nov 1914 of the death of Private George Bunyan of Highland light Infantry, son of Mr & Mrs Samuel Bunyan of 42 Cowper Road... His widow is left with two young children.
