Had a quick look with no success - he may not have been born in Cardiff, could have been from anywhere in UK. Have you got the name of who he married? or at least a year so we can find out who he married? From there you could get his marriage certificate and at least his fathers name (you say his first child was born in Cardiff, do you have the certificate showing his wifes maiden name?).......

Catherine

www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

There is a 10 year old Walter Jacques born Pateley Bridge, Yorks. on the 1901 census living in the civil parish of Bingley, Yorks.  I have no credits to view the details- however, if you just enter the surname and then Bingley as a keyword there are only 11 individuals which appear to be a family group.  You would however have to purchase credits to view the full details.

As you will see the parents appear to be a Jonathan and Sarah Jaques.

Hope this is of some help.

There is the birth of an Alice Maud Farthing in Cardiff, December 1889, Vol 11a Page 260 (on the 1891 census, the father of this girl, Jabez? (Henry on 1901 census) Farthing is from Chatham, Kent and the mother, Lucy is from Bristol)

Have you got Alice and Walter's marriage certificate to check their fathers names? No way of knowing for sure if we're tracing the right family otherwise..... Theres a possibility for Walter on 1901 Wales census (born Kettering) but unclear writing - fathers name from marriage cert would confirm/discount this family....

Catherine
