Glasgow. Barnhill Poorhouse records
« on: Tuesday 30 April 19 09:22 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me find admission records and any other for Agnes Sidaway who died in the Barnhill Poorhouse in Glasgow in November 1885?

I believe The Mitchell Library may hold records but I can’t get up to Glasgow to search.

We think her husband deserted her and trying to work out why Agnes went into the Poorhouse. Illness or was she destitute. Her son also died there in 1875. Was he admitted because he was ill or was Agnes in the Poorhouse for more than 10 years.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you!

There is a possible 1881 census entry for Agnes at Barnhill Poorhouse:

Agnes Sideway, 40, Sailor's wife b. Govan

Hi Monica - thank you, yes, I saw this one and it is her.

I was wondering if anyone knew how I could get sight of her records at Barnhill.

Any other information would be wonderful!

Thanks again

Why not contact the Mitchell Library direct and request a search? www.glasgowfamilyhistory.org.uk/ExploreRecords/Pages/Poor-Law.aspx

I contacted The Library but they are too busy and recommended a pretty expensive researcher!

I don't mind paying for a couple of hours for a look up but not a large fee.

I'll see what I can find on Sighthill Cemetery.  Thanks Monica and Skoosh.
