hawkins in 1851 census Wycombe, Medmenham, Hambledon
« on: Tuesday 03 August 04 07:31 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find Catherine Hawkins widow born Medmenham about 1800 and her son Michael born Medmenham about 1827.  There was a Michael Hawkins who married in Chepping Wycombe about 1848 but I could find no trace of children in the Wycombe baptism registers. In 1841 Catherine was living in Aylsbury with her husband Richard and children. In 1843 Richard died in Aylsbury and in 1849 two sons (Richard junior and John) came to Australia. The only daughter Georgina Isabella married Thomas Barlow at Hambledon in 1857. No further trace of Catherine or Michael (except an appearance by Michael at a wedding in Surrey in about 1888) has ever been found. Thanks for any help

thanks Maddie, it looks like they'd moved on before 1851.

Just a thought Hellen. There is a death on Free BMD for a Catherine Hawkins June Qtr 1847 in Henley.

If Catherine had gone back to Medmenham after the death of her husband & subsequently died the record could be in Henley.

Hello Maddie,
I have the death certificate for Catherine Hawkins who died in Henley in the June quarter of 1847 and its the wrong one. "My" Catherine was born about 1800 but the one who died in 1847 was 81 years old and the wife of William. I know, I got all excited thinking it had to be the right one but no such luck  :( :( :(

Hi Hellen

Isn't that just so frustrating. !!!!! I wonder if she married again. ???

If I see any one on the 1851 that could be her with a different surname I will let you know.

Hello
I have nothing much on you couple, Richard was a Baker.
I think you made a typo with some details, Richard, Catherine, Richard jrn, Michael & Georgian in 1841 were living in Bell Street, Henley. From BMD Richard died 1843 death registered in Henley & Catherine died 1847 registered in Henley.

Michael in 1851 was married to an Elizabeth in 1848, unfortunately she could be either Elizabeth Adams, Hopkins or Sheriff. 1851 they were living in Windsor Street, Uxbridge. Richard jrn I cannot trace, nor a John.

But I do have Georgina's details, you may well have all this, but no harm in writing it in case you don't.
Husband Thomas Barlow his family-
Son of William Barlow born around 1794 a labourer, married Martha and had 5 children
1st Betsy 1819 in Hambleden, she married William Meads born 1807 Hambleden a agricultural labourer, & had a daughter Sarah Ann Meads 1845 in Hambleden.
2nd Fanny born 1823 Hambleden, a lacemaker. married Mark Davis 31 oct 1852 at St. Mary church, Hambleden Mark born around 1828 place unknown, they had daughter Susanna/Susan baptised 4 Aug 1844 St. Mary, Hambleden, Susan was baseborn but parents later married 31 Oct 1852 in St Mary's and unusually Mark changed his name to Mark Davis Barlow. They had no further children as Mark died shortly after marriage. Susan went on to marry Willaim Barlow, I can give these details if you wish of thier children.
3rd George Barlow born 1829 Hambleden baptised in St. Mary's on 24 June 1829 He married twice to Martha Pratt 1851 & Elizabeth small 1864 with a total of 7 children, please feel free ask if you wish these details.
4th was Thomas himself, will come back to him later.
5th was John now Thomas & John were twins both born 28 aug 1833 Hambleden, both baptised 19 sep 1833 in St. Mary's, no more on John. As Thomas is given first I assume he was the elder twin.
Back to Thomas born & baptised as for brother John, married Georgina Isabella Hawkins 7 feb 1857 St Mary's, their 4 children were
1st  Catherine born 1858 Hambleden a lace maker, then servant by 1891 a dressmaker.
2nd  Harriett born 8 Feb 1861 Perrin's spring, Frieth, baptised in St. Mary's 17 March 1861 a kitchen maid in 1881 living in at 46 Bedford Square, St Giles, Middlesex, then she married someone with surname Heron but cannot trace & he died before they had children, 1901 widowed living 65 Devonshire road, Bexhill, Battles, Sussex, also with her is mother & sisters Clara & Ella.
3rd Rosanna born 13 Dec 1864 Southbrook, Hambleden, baptised St. Mary's 29 Jan 1865. A servant ,
4th Clara Isabella born 4 Oct 1868 Parmoor, Hambleden, baptised St. Mary's 15 Nov 1868 a Dressmaker.

Mother Georgina lived 1851 with uncle Thomas Burridge & his family in Spurgrove, Frieth, he was disabled Agricultural labourer, as he had loss a leg. At time of marriage Georgina was living in Parmoor, Hambleden. She & Thomas then lived in Perrin's spring, Frieth, 1865 in Southbrook, Hambleden, then by 1871 Parmoor farm house, Hambleden, they were still there in 1881, by 1891 Georgina was widowed & living 65 Devonshire Road, Bexhill, Battle, Sussex with as mention with Harriett.
Sorry I can trace no children for any of the daughters.
Regards Vita
