Was ‘School’ ever used as a variant of the name ‘Scullion’?

I’m currently searching for the Tyrone marriage record of a John Bell and a Mary Scullion, which should be around 1886 based on the 1911 census. I’ve found one in 1885 that has the listed couple living in the right place (Mullaghwotragh), but the bride is listed as ‘Mary School’ rather than ‘Mary Scullion’.

Was school ever used as a variant of Scullion, or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely?

Wow, I hadn’t checked the age but, that is indeed her. She’s 40 in 1911 and was married 25 years previous. So Mary Scullion was indeed 15 when she got married, that’s crazy, though I assume sadly more common back in those days

For context, I’m currently trying to map out all the Catholic Bell families in and around Coagh trying to see which ones are linked into my tree. There don’t seem to be very many so I’m wondering if there’s a traceable common ancestor.

Young age...... but people were finishing University aged 14 or 15 then!

Yes the record you are looking should be in Ardboe parish records In MID 1800s there are registrations in these records for School that are assumed Scullion
