Scottish Roots?
« on: Friday 19 April 19 13:37 BST (UK) »
My 5th x Great Grandmother was called Susanna Lowrie/Laurie baptised 25 Sep 1764 at Founders Hall Lothbury Scots Church, London, England daughter of John Lawrie/Lowrie.

The hall was used for religious services by both the Scottish Presbyterian Church in London and by Nonconformist preachers.

I have no idea if Susannah was the daughter of a Scottish Presbyterian or an English non conformist.

My DNA ethnicity estimate is 36% Irish/Ulster/Scotland.

Should I assume Susannah is the daughter of Scottish parents and is Lawrie/Lowrie a Scottish name? And where should I look next as I can't seem to find anything else on John Laurie/Lawrie or where in Scotland he came from or how he ended up in London.

Sussanah would go on to marry a William Hems in 1787.

Any help and guidance would be gratefully received.

When I was a child, I had a friend named "Sandy Lawrie". When it was raining, we used to call him, "Muddy truck.

True story. Unfortuately, he died in 1979 aged 26.
