Hi,
My name is Faith ,my mother was Ruiha Young nee Ueke ,her grand mother was Ruiha Ueke nee Sinclair. I only recently became interested in genealogy as my daughter and I really want to uncover the "George Sinclair" mystery.
My daughter has been researching on Ancestry with thru-lines and DNA matches. This method uncovers truth of bloodlines which can be very confronting and exciting at the same time. This is because there was much inter-marrying .
Matire's(1819) father was a Ngapuhi chief called Te Tupua .Her mother was also called Matire Paora Toeke(1794) and this has caused a lot confusion in family trees. In history Paua Te Aniwa is recorded as her mother but she is mother to Riperata. Definitely from Ngapuhi ,Te Horo Pipiwai, not Te Horo Wellington as we first thought. Matire's half-sister was priestess Riperata Maumau Te Tu Pua who married Mathew Farley. Matire was first married to Titore Taku (Ngapuhi war chief who took over tribal land in Russell not long before he passed from war wounds in 1837. This left Matire Taku, a widow in Russell at the age of 18.There is this part of history that results in the birth of 3 sisters who were reputedly left at Waimate North Mission. Matire later re-married and became Matire Matiaha .
We havent totally solved the "George Sinclair " but have some theories that we do not feel comfortable sharing as it all needs more work.
If anyone has more information we would love to hear from them. We are also seeking someone from both Elizabeth and Heeni's lines so we can continue our bloodline search and verify results. I hope this helps all of us solve the mysteries on this line.
