Looking for FIELDS ALLEY, All Saints, Wandsworth, Surrey, 1851.

Hello,

I am looking for geographic location Fields Alley (District 6, All Saints, Wandsworth, Surrey, England) as recorded in the 1851 Census.

I can't seem to find anything. Can someone help?

It is there.  It starts at HO107/1578/96/19.  Who in particular are you looking for (if anyone)?

I don't understand your reply. Fields Alley is a street/alley.
I am looking for the geographic location and information about Fields Alley because my ancestors resided there.

Hi,

The description for that enumeration district is "All that part of the Parish of All Saints which comprises part of the South side of the High Street from the River Wardle westward to Simrose Court, including James's Yards, Chapel Yard, Church Alley, Fields Alley and Newton's Yard.

Zoom in and look under the High in High Street, it's between Newton's Yard and Chapel Yard. 

Newton's Yard and Chapel Yard are still on Google maps.

Daisy and Solid Rock, how did you find this information?
I admit I am not very familiar with English documents as I am Canadian but my paternal grandfather's line are from southern England (Lambert).

As my family lived in tent communities at times and moved A LOT, it's not been easy finding information .
And English streets and districts change so much .
Looking at the area, I assume they were squatting and not living in brick and mortar homes. What do you think?

Firstly my apologies, it say the River WANDLE not WARDLE as I first said


I found them using Ancestry and looking up 1851 Surrey, Wandsworth, enumeration district 6, it gives the description of the district. The page is here but I think you need a membership to access it

Then I used this great site to find maps for Wandsworth,

The whole site is interesting and seems huge, I'm still learning about it.  I used "Find by place" and played around with the different categories and dates in the search box using Wandsworth as my start point, I really enjoyed doing it so I'm glad it helped 

I think there would have been dwellings in Field's Alley but I could be wrong
