Orsett Institution
« on: Saturday 13 April 19 00:50 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have no knowledge of Essex and I am hoping that someone can help please.  My ancestor died in Rainhill Hospital, Merseyside in 1952. The record shows that his last place of abode before admission in 1949 was Orsett Institution. I have googled this but can't find very much information for that period. The 1939 register shows that at that time he was a patient at Brentwood Mental Hospital. My question is, are these two separate places or is it possible that Brentwood Mental Hospital became part of Orsett?
                               Thanks :)

They are 2 separate places.

The Orsett institute would have been on the site of what is now left of Orsett hospital.  It was the previous site of the Workhouse.

The Brentwood mental hospital is likely to be Warley.

Although they are not far apart Orsett is in the borough of Thurrock whereas Brentwood is in borough of Brentwood.
