Could your gg grandfather have died in Victoria?

There is a death for a William JOSE, born Cornwall, in 1870 at Spring Creek, Maldon, Victoria aged 46, son of William and Catherine (reg 7163). Death notice https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/189330750

Worth considering?

PS Assuming Wm Thos JOSE is your g-grandfather, did he move from SA to Victoria and then WA?

Thank you Cass T and others.
I believe the grave at Kapunda for Sophia Jose is correct. ( the grave details don't appear to state what year they were buried ? ) My research shows Sophia died in 1860 at the age of 24 yrs. They resided at Kapunda.
William and Sophia were married in 1853 at St Austell Cornwall. (I believe his father was named Thomas Jose and his mother was Ann Snell).
William and Sophia came out to Kapunda South Australia on board the ship "Omega" arriving 12 August 1857. William was 30 yrs of age and Sophia was 22yrs of age. They had two sons John aged 2 yrs and William Thomas Jose aged 6 months. ( therefore the William Jose who died at the age of 27 yrs buried at Kapunda could not be him ). William was a miner.
William Thomas Jose was my Great Grandfather who married Tilda Rundstrom in Hotham Victoria and they had 5 children. (3 in Melbourne Victoria and 2 in Broken Hill). Tilda died 1905 at Footscray Victoria. The family moved to Perth in about 1907. William Thomas was also a miner.
One of the children was George Hamilton Jose who was my Grandfather.

My stumbling block is when and where did William Jose die ? ??

Sophia JOSE (d. 1860) is buried in another part of the cemetery. Very nearby is an infant Sophie JOSE and a boy named John Thomas JOSE who died aged 6 - is this the John b. 1855? No death record found for either of them.

So is the John buried next to Sophia their eldest son?

Perhaps someone else can find deaths for baby Sophie and young John.

Agree can rule out the Wm buried at Kapunda, the one who died in SA in 1907, and the one in Victoria - assuming parents names are correct on the 1870 Vic death reg AND that you have the right parents for him. (Do you have the UK marriage certificate?)

If he followed the mines, it's possible he went to Queensland. There is a report of a miner named William JOSE who died there in late Dec 1879 attempting to cross a river, age not stated, reg in 1880/C1838: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/169507111

Looking at newspaper records, it appears John & Margaret (nee DUFFEY) married in 1866 and Sarah Ann (1867-1872) was their daughter. They had a son named John (b. 1872) who went to WA and another daughter Sarah (b. 1874).

Seems William and Phillippa (nee DOWER) were parents of Alfred (1864-1877). They had another son, William, born in 1855 at sea and died in 1904.

So another dead end (no pun intended!)

Thanks Wivenhoe.

You could be right with the marriage certificate for WT Jose and Tilda to un-surface another piece of the puzzle on W Jose.
Police Gazette would not be correct as he is too old. Born 1855, report is 1877 so he would be 22 yrs not 34 yrs.

Thank you Mollipops1

Regarding Kapunda cemetry. Sophia died 1860 and Sophie and John Thomas Jose buried near by.
This is feasible they were her children. What year were they buried ?
I haven't researched John Jose as yet.

I have read and noted a lot from Trove, Ancestry, Find my past, Family search and My Heritage etc, but no luck yet.

If perhaps I can find correct evidence if he re married then this may lead to further information.

Do you have the UK marriage certificate of Wm & Sophia?

The 1879 Qld death is a possibility but the death certificate may not reveal much information depending who the informant was (and they are not cheap!).

Unfortunately the cemetery record does not give a death year for little Sophie and John nor can I see a death record that fits in SA BDM. But I feel they must be connected (grave A32 for the children and A34 for Sophia).

EDIT: There is a death reg for a John Thomas JOYCE who died in Kapunda in 1860?? And no matching burial as JOYCE.
