David Ford born about 1787 in Alverstoke, Gosport, Hampshire
« on: Tuesday 09 April 19 14:03 BST (UK) »
According to the 1841 and 1851 census David Ford was born in 1791 or 1787 in Alverstoke.  I have found a Christening record for May 1796 - Parents James and Mary Ford.  James appears to have married Mary Abraham in 1796.  Would this lead you to believe that he was Mary's Illegitimate child?  If he was born 1787 Mary would only have been 14 when she had him so perhaps the later date is more correct.  I thought perhaps James was married before and David was his from a first marriage but can't find any reference to an earlier marriage.  Can anyone recommend sites I can research?  Thank you Lesley

You can't take notice of ages in 1841 as they are 'rounded' down

1851 gives his age as 64 so born c1787.

Death registration
FORD, DAVID       age 69
1857  March Quarter in ALVERSTOKE  Volume 02B  Page 276

Why do you think his parents are James & Mary  :-\

There are a James & Mary baptising children in Alverstoke in the early 1780's so obviously another couple

I would suggest that this is the baptism record you need with additional info:

David Ford son of James & Mary Ford bpt 29 May 1796 at Alverstoke.  Birth date: 19 Mar 1787

Nell

Added: Given that the date of the marriage that you have found is after the baptism date (about three weeks), unless the clergyman concerned was completely not of this world, it seems likely that Mary Abraham was not the mother, but maybe a different Mary.  No other marriage stands out , but the couple may have married on the Isle of Wight.

Thanks for your responses.  It looks as if I have the wrong James and Mary.  I will need to do some more research.
