Taylor Family - Appledore.
« on: Monday 01 April 19 20:32 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping to find some guidance/information on the Taylor family from Appledore.

We have the following:-
Name    John Taylor
D.O.B      around Sept. 1887
Died         Dec. 1952
Age          on death 65
Died.        Bodmin
Married Evelyn May Houghton at St. Paul’s Charlestown, Cornwall.

It is understood that his mother died when he was still young and his father remarried.

Any pointers to where we can go from here would be appreciated.

Regards, Andrew.

Have you looked for him on the 1891 census which can be found on www.familysearch.org.  There are 2 possibilities

Have you checked freebmd to find when he married?  Buying a copy of his marriage cert will give his fathers name. www.freebmd.org.uk.  It was 1912 in Cornwall

Use freebmd to look for his birth registration then use GRO online to find his mothers maiden name
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

Once you have found his mmn use freebmd to find his parents marriage.  Knowing their christian names will help you find her death and his remarriage on freebmd

was typing, will post anyway...

did the date of the marriage come from a certificate? The marriage cert should give his father's name & occupation. - ref jun qtr 1912 St Austell vol 5c pg 239

Have you looked for them on the 1939 register? That should give his date of birth and may help you identify his birth registration.

The marriage isn't on the opc database, but Evelyn's baptism is

He was not born in 1887.  Check the 1939 register.  What documentation do you have that shows he was born in Appledore?

Most of my information comes from my cousin who has John as her grandfather.

She has since furnished the following:-

My Great grandparents prior to
this, Thomas Taylor from Appledore  married to Charlotte
don’t know single name from Crediton.
 Children John W Taylor....my Grandad
 Thomas I Taylor
 Lottie I Taylor

This was found on the 1901 Census all
living at 22 Bude Street Appledore.

Thank you for your replies, I shall delve further...

Regards, Andrew.

well, a John William Taylor is on the electoral role in Appledore in 1931 with Elizabeth and Sarah Elizabeth. Marriage march qtr 1909 Bideford of John William Taylor and Sarah Elizabeth S Taylor.
This census in 1911, John away at sea ?

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XW9R-7XS

So would appear to be a different John Taylor to the one in Charlestown. What evidence do you have that points to the one in Cornwall?
