Viewing images in ScotlandsPeople
« on: Saturday 09 March 19 22:33 GMT (UK) »
From memory, you used to be able to choose the image type you wished to view on ScotlandsPeople, e.g. you could choose jpg, tiff etc based on your preferences and you could choose whether you wanted a header on the image.

Are these options still available? If they are how do you setup your preferences?

I have just checked downloading my images from SP and it looks like it depends on what you have set up on your computer already. e.g. jpeg/photos.

Doesn't seem to give you an option. I have windows 10.

Not a very technical answer sorry.

Hope this helps.

I think quite a few of the options were removed/changed when the company changed hands and new database software was introduced - ?18 months- 2 years ago.

Mine all download as jpgs.  The most annoying part is the wills. They were going to offer a pdf version but last time I used that section it was still a page by page jpg.

Another conundrum just now !!

In my saved images I wanted to look at a death record but when I clicked on it, it said I was denied access. I`m not too bothered as I was probably going to delete it anyway, but as I paid for it I think I should be able to view it.

If you've paid for it, contact them and they may either send you a copy or give you some credits.  When they moved to the new system, a couple of my old images went walkabout and they were very prompt and reimbursed me for them.

Oh thanks; that`s good to know, I`d rather have the credits !!
I`m pretty sure it was one of those I looked at when searching for my gt grandfather, eventually he was found under another name.

Gadget,
<<The most annoying part is the wills. They were going to offer a pdf version but last time I used that section it was still a page by page jpg. >>

The big blue "Download as PDF" button worked just now for me - one multi-page Will, one PDF. The facility was there in June 2018. In fact, I don't think you can download in pdf format one page at a time - well I can't anyway. However I have a nice little free utility that I've used for years called CutePDF (www.cutepdf.com) which is a psuedo-printer, so instead of printing anything, it produces a pdf. If you print it, you can pdf it.

While I'm at it, if you're like me, occasionally you'll be wanting to do mass renamings of files. Again for years I've used another free utility called ReNamer (www.den4b.com) - fantastically useful and fantastically usable!

I have no connection with either, only a satisfied customer.

Gadget, I sent them an email Sunday evening.

Today`s reply says it had been re- indexed and they sent a link. It was an unconnected person !!

Oh dear. I think you'd better contact them again  :-\

Fordyce - Many thanks for info. I use Adobe's pdf viewer. I'm glad that they've now reinstated the pdf version.
