Thank you so much for all that information, cupoflife. That has given me a lot to go on. It's interesting that the children maintained contact with their mother, even though she was the 'guilty party' in their parents' divorce. I'm still wondering whether they were adopted or whether they just chose to change their surname to Roberts. I guess my next step is to get an An****ry account to try to find the births of any grandchildren, unless anyone can suggest another option. I have tried the 'Ask a Librarian' service for possible information about State care and adoption but so far (nearly 3 weeks) haven't received a reply. I'm sure they have plenty more pressing things to do so I don't have high hopes for that. On we go. Best regards.

Both Thomas Vincent and his brother James served in WWII. Their mother Edith was listed as next of kin for both.

Note in 1949 Daniel Papchuck states he arrived in Australia in 1913 to Geraldton, was widowed, and had several children but with different names to those you have posted.

It appears this same man enlists in 1915 as Denis Papchuck, aged 23, single, and gives his mother in Russia as next of kin.

EDIT: I see the children on the 1949 statement were with 2nd wife Annie who died in 1943  His 3rd wife Olive remarried and died in 1990.

If you look up the passenger index at NAA (same link as above) the actual passenger listing for the Ceramic in 1920 only shows Mrs E. A. Papchuck arriving...no Mr D. Papchuck. Possibly an assumption by the tree owner?

EDIT: Just noticed his service record shows he came to Australia with his wife in 1920 on Ceramic!!
