Hi Sandra Hope you got my reply this time
John Hughes born 1890 Glasgow,emigrated to Canada,married Elizabeth Gaddis  from England,who went to Canada with her son Lawrence in after the death of her husband
John and Elizabeth had one son John Hughes 1928to1996,he married Rita MacDonald 1924 to 1980.
They had one son and one daughter who are still living according to the Ancestry website and the son seems to have one son.
I do not have access to the full Ancestry site so cannot contact them to give them any further information about the Hughes family.I have not managed to find Uncle John's Father and Mother(my father was the youngest in the family) but I do know they were both buried in Gateshead,where most of John's siblings were born

So the information that was posted yesterday was all correct - John seems to have remarried after Rita passed away.

Obituary - mentions more than 2 children as per the other obituary I posted for Jeannette Lucinda Hughes yesterday.

The Ottawa Journal shows more than two children - all listed on the obituary for Rita
Burial Notre Dame Cemetery.

You should be more specific and say what the family tree name is on ancestry ?

I can see a private tree with a John Hughes born 1890 Glasgow - Elizabeth Gaddis born 1891 Felling Durham - under the tree name John Hughes - owner annalisahughes65 - I have sent a message to that tree owner directing them to this thread.  Hopefully if it is the right connection they will reply here.

The death certificate for John Hughes in 1954 quoted in reply 1 said his father was John - so this seems to be incorrect.

You quoted parents John and Elizabeth - those don't seem to be correct according to the marriage certificate.  ???

Elizabeth Gaddis had married Joannes Lamb - & June 1915. St. Godric, Durham.


The marriage of Elibeth Gaddis Lamb and John Hughes took place 9 May 1925 Vancouver BC.

Here is a copy of the marriage certificate............

You will see that John Hughes parents are listed as Robert Highes and Mary Lorimer and Elizabeths parents were Frank Gaddis and Susanne Youngcoats.
