Lewis family Bedwelty/Tredegar
« on: Tuesday 26 February 19 06:47 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find the birth details of Ann Lewis (born c1848). On her marriage certificate to George Carey (1842-1923) her father is mentioned as being Lewis Lewis (deceased) but cannot find marriage for him.  Her mother's name was Johanna (born c1830) who married Edward Pugh after Lewis Lewis died. I would be grateful for any information as I am trying to trace my maternal line. This is my brick wall.

Hi Kay, thank you for replying and have added that to my tree. However, cannot find their marriage and Johanna seems to disappear from census records until after she married Edward Pugh. Cannot even find her 2nd marriage record.  Also, you correctly point out that Ann is not with them in 1851. Quite a mystery. They may have been non conformist although have checked records available on Ancestry.
Cheers Pamela

Sadly I think the 1850 marriage is between  Johanna Davies and Thomas Williams https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KCT5-LYW   Could Johanna have reverted to her maiden name when Lewis died??
