Kaupawich
« on: Monday 25 February 19 03:30 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find info on a Sarah Ellen Kaupawich who was born 12 April 1894 according to her death registration and married Walter J Smith in Coventry sometime in 1925. Sarah was the 2nd wife of my great grandfather Walter. Family legend has it that she was his first wife's sister. The first wife was Castancia Abromovitch. She was also known as Constance and her surname has many spelling variations which makes it hard! Castancia/ Constance was born circa 1893 in West Ham, she married Walter, who was from Coventry in 1917 and her death was registered in West Ham in 1925. She left behind 3 young children - the eldest's birth was registered in West Ham in 1917 and the other 2 were registered in Coventry 1921 and 1922. I have found absolutely nothing that would suggest Sarah and Castancia/Constance were sisters. I have found  Castancia /Constance on the census records and there was no Sarah.
I cannot find anything on Sarah or much on any Kaupawich person that would fit. I've seen a couple of marriages for what might be sisters of Sarah but have been unable to find anything on any census records or even birth or death records. Hopefully someone might be able to help move me forward
Thank you

The 1925 marriage cert would hopefully give you details of her father

Marriages Mar Qtr 1925   Coventry    6d   867
Sarah P Kaupswich - Walter J  Smith

Kay

Added - Have you looked for the family in the 1939 Register - I think Sarah is listed as born 1900 also living with  a Frances  Johnson/Kaulpawich  born 1907

There is a Sarah Kulposkavis registered West Ham June Quarter vol. 4a page 178 mothers maiden name Sakalowski
This would fit with 1939 register.
This is the closest I could find allowing for transcription mishaps etc.

Constance seems t have been transcribed as Paston Abramarvitch  1893 West Ham mothers maiden name Jacoskirty
he brother John Abramovich registered West Ham 1897 mmn Orachoski.

I believe the mother to be the same person the clerk writing down the surname as he heard it.

I think you cracked it!  This is the family using the 1911 freesearch https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWFS-HQV   - including sister Frances who was living with Sarah in 1939

Look like they had a sister Lydia registered 1902 West Ham as Kalpokas mothers maiden name Sikolosky
Her death registered West Ham 1918 as Lydia Kaupawich

So many ways to spell the same name

The  daughter Magdalen filled in the 1911 census so the parents may not have been illiterate
