Hi Bev,

Thanks for pointing out the bit about Euphemia and Bella having been to US before, but it really screws things up! If Euphemia was out there in 1892 to 1899 (and had travelled out as a Taylor, if previous reply is correct) then

1) when/where did she marry George Johnston?
2) how could Bella have been born in Leith in 1894?

If Bella was out in US from 1895 to 1899 then did Euphemia travel back in 1894, marry, give birth and return in 1895? And without George who stated he hadn't been to US before 1905! Did Euphemia omit a return trip from the passenger list?

The information was from New York, Passenger and Crew Lists (including Castle Garden and Ellis Island), 1820-1957 on Ancestry.
The age looks like 23 on the original.
She arrives in 1892, so born about 1869

Hi Chempat

Re: Euphemia Taylor to US in 1892, Find My Past gives birth date about 1869. I don't have access to FindMyPast so can't see the full record.

Regards

I was not sure how to interpret those dates.
Does '1892-1899' mean a stay of seven years (obviously not since the daughter was born in Scotland), or that she travelled once in 1892 and again in 1899?  If she had a sister and a brother living in Philadelphia, perhaps she went on more than one visit.

Hi Bev,

Euphemia seemed to be a bit of a commuter! Key appears to be finding out when & where she married George Johnston; which is where I started!

Sorry, yes, Newington, Midlothian.
I wonder if George went to prison or was bankrupted and changed his name.
