Yes that is the family I am after, many thanks another route to follow. I have just had a lightbulb moment. My late grandmothers neighbours were also called Cassells and I am beginning to think that my missing Jane may have died in the home of her son by husband number two. i.e. George Cassells. Gran's neighbour may well have given place to his older half brother, ? McClung to register the death. Makes more sense than trying to link both sides of my family. As no street number given on Death Cert, I can only speculate, but not a very long street  and Cassells not a very common name here, so I will be going back to Scotland's People to search for her children. Looks like I may be getting there. So proud if James Brownlie served his country especially with HLI. Will let you all know.

Many thanks for all the assistance with the two outstanding children, of nine, born to Jane McCallum Buchanan Brownlie, something of a heroine of mine. Jane, senior's, last child with Andrew Buchanan, also called Jane has been traced so now I am going to check out info on Jane, senior's,oldest son with James Brownlie, he was also called James.. When I have my big sheet of paper and freshly sharpened pencils I will hopefully have closed all the threads. It has only taken me about two years. The information I have may help someone else with their research. Many thanks RootsChat, I would never have solved it without your help. So much for the whisper of Jamaica! I will get back to you all when I have all dates etc. in place and publish the tree.

Working on it now, pieces of paper, pencils, staplers, certs all over the place. I am hoping that the final result will be worth it. Although as I review my research more questions arise. I have discovered the death cert for James Docherty Brownlie dated 9th September 1953 and place of death given as 9 Union Street,Stirlingshire but immediately underneath is 25 Arthur Street Edinburgh. This is confirmed by his widow as the home address. I am presuming he died of "Myocarditis" whilst at work as a coal porter. Although one major lesson I have learned during this process is " Never assume anything" reference Jamaica. Now back to work organising this chaos!

Can you make out 'UR' before the Edinburgh address? It was standard practice to record the actual place of death, then add 'UR' meaning 'Usual Residence' if that wasn't where the death occurred.

Possible details on the address in Stirling:

ORCHARD HOUSE, STIRLING (demolished)  Built as Stirling Combination Poorhouse, it opened in 1857. A separate hospital block was added to the rear and a small ward block for pauper lunatics. It followed the standard H‑shaped plan.....

...Fronting Union Street the entrance lodge contained....

I think you will find that the origins of the address were this. Over the years many workhouses were closed but their hospital facilities were modernised and remain.

Today Orchard House Day Hospital stands at 9 Union Street Stirling.
