« on: Wednesday 20 February 19 18:11 GMT (UK) »
Researching relatives who lived in the village of Longton , s of Preston, Lancashire.

Anyone know of any MI's for the local church St Andrew's

I have ancestry sub but cannot fathom the 1939 census correct district for Liverpool Road , Longton
- 1911 census location - RD 476 , sub 1, EM 5.

Any suggestions where I can look next?

There wasn't a census in 1939?! ;D

However, the 1939 National Register was started then.
It is based on Councils, rather than enumeration districts.

So, first work out in which council Longton was situated - probably Preston Rural District.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

You quite correct, the 1939 exercise was all about identity & confirming the whereabouts of persons of interest.
The Preston RD has a 20 sections or so , I thought there may be a cross ref somewhere .
Manged to locate - Preston RD 476a-1.

Longton is a small village about 2 miles from where I live. More than happy to do a visit if required. 👍
Watson, Scotland /Dixon, Lancashire /Sheppard, Rogers & Slevin, mostly around Netheravon & Figheldean

Hello Fiona, Thanks for your kind offer, we have a clearer picture of the Helme Family and residential locations in times gone by.
Thanks again

Those of us with Lancastrian roots are lucky, the online Church records are very extensive.

This is the LAN OPC page for St Andrews

https://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Longton/standrew/index.html

Records may well be archived at

https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/libraries-and-archives/archives-and-record-office/?utm_source=Redirect&utm_medium=Shorturl&utm_campaign=Shorturl

Which is in Bow Lane Preston and about a 15 minute drive from Longton.
