The Battle for France
« on: Sunday 17 February 19 16:21 GMT (UK) »
Mr paternal Grandfather died many years ago but while I was a boy he did tell me some stories from his war.
One I recall him telling me that whilst he was in the Somerset Light Infantry in 1940 they were embarking on a troopship bound for France when the evacuations were taking place. Ultimately they never left and they were dispersed and took on devensive duties in Sussex.
Does anyone know how I could find out more about this story? Were there ships being readied to send troops to another part of France at the time?

More troops were indeed sent to France after Dunkirk. Search on Google for "second BEF".
