J Ryan B Coy 3rd Batt

Hi,
I'm looking for all information on John Joseph Ryan if 3rd Batt Dublin Brigade. What i do know is he lived at 32 Hanover Street, and he died in 1943. I'm trying to find out about his time in the old IRA and what this medal would have been awarded for and If there would be any photos of brigade?

I would think the medal would have been awarded for services during the campaign against the British 'occupying forces' from 1919-21.

As a member of an Active Service Unit Ryan would most likely have fought against the British Army and the police and perhaps been involved in assassinations/executions of spies and political opponents.  If he was in Dublin in 1920 he may have been involved in "Bloody Sunday"
The most high-profile atrocity of the war took place in Dublin in November 1920, and is still known as Bloody Sunday. In the early hours of the morning, Collins' "Squad" killed fourteen British spies, some in front of their wives. In reprisal, that afternoon, British forces opened fire on a football crowd at Croke Park, killing 14 civilians. Towards the end of the day, two prominent Republicans and a friend of theirs were arrested and killed by Crown Forces. (wikiwand)

Do you know if he got or even applied for a military pension
The application forms are online

Not all are online yet, they started with 1916 and may not have got to 1919 yet.
