Hello there, just stumbled across your post whilst trying to find out a little about the history of our house. I live in Brockstown House at Brockstown Upper, Carnowen. Be interested to see if there is any connection with your family. The house was built about the turn of the century by a family called Watts. I wonder if there was an earlier settlement in the same place where the Colhouns lived?

My grandmother was born in Brockstown Lower (I believe) in Carnowen. Could you send me an email at 2445940 [at] gmail.com ? It would be great to be in touch. I have an old map of the area.

I don't see a direct response to lmgnz's question about the equivalence of Corncammon and Corncamble. I found the following statement, which, while not definitive, does suggest they describe the same area:

"The family [Colhoun of Taughboyne] originated in parish Taughboyne, Co. Donegal about 1665, and the senior members owned the townland of Corncammon (aka Corncamble) in the adjacent parish of Allsaints."

Thank you Roger. The original post was made at the start of my DNA journey with the Colhouns. I contacted  several years ago Brian Anton who wrote the post in your  link. Brian has been putting together the histories of the various Donegal Colhouns with the help of yDNA tests.

We still do not appear to have a direct male line yDNA tested from the line of Andrew Colhoun who died 1865 so I cannot say if they are the same family as the earlier John Colhoun who died 1755 who had property at Corncammon. Brian should be getting to this family shortly as he has completed the series on the Colhouns associated with Crosh and has now moved on to Labadash and Letterkenny.

But yes it seems that both Corncammon (Newspaper notices) and Corncamble ( Griffiths Valuations) were used to name the same place.

Is anyone here looking for Colhouns in Inishowen, particularly in the Malin/Knockglass areas?  I am related to them up there, and I get to my great^3 grandfather William Colhoun born about 1790 and died 1858 and it's a brick wall.  He may have come from farther south, but I have nothing more than what are likely to be mistakes in Ancestry trees going beyond him.
