To be absolutely sure you are following the correct line you need Laura's birth certificate; then you can look for her parents' marriage certificate.

Hi,

Don't know if this will help or not but there is a death of a Gladys Edith Wheeler on 21 Nov 1984 in Sandwell area of West Midlands. It says her date of birth was 1 Dec 1897.

The 1939 register for Joseph and Gladys shows her date of birth as 1 Dec 1896 and Free BMD has the birth of an Gladys Edith Allen Mar Qtr 1897 in Aston area of Birmingham. Mothers maiden name I think is Wetton.

Is this a  possibility?
