I have both Caunters and Ealeses along my ancestors, but curiously on different sides -- Caunters through my grandfather, Ealeses through my grandmother. I hadn't previously been aware of a link between them, other than that they were both associated with Ashburton (where I was myself born, though that was just a wartime effect, when you had to be born where you could find a maternity ward, regardless of whether you had any connection with the place). Probably I should look more closely at the two families. My most recent Caunter is Priscilla (1760-1833), later Prout, later Cornish, my great-great-greatgrandmother. I can go seven generations before her, to George Caunter. However, the information comes from a handwritten tree, which may or may not be reliable.
My most recent Eales is Catherine (1809-1840), later Kitson, my great-greatgrandmother. In her case the data are more reliable, but only go back four Eales generations, to John Eales. Further in a different direction, to Richard Raban.
