A friend told me that they had a baby daughter in hospital in the '60's and the birth was never registered. Was this illegal? And surely you required a death certificate to bury a child?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
If a baby is stillborn you get given a certificate of stillbirth rather than a birth and death certificate - which enables you to bury the baby
In some places the registrar will visit you in the hospital and do the paperwork with you there and then, so they may have registered the baby without actually realising (I also know this happened fairly recently with a baby who died soon after birth, the registrar visited them while she was recovering in hospital and registered both his birth and death)
