Several news items, from around 1828  mention Captain Alexander DUTHIE as master of Bengal Merchant.
Mrs DUTHIE is also mentioned as being on board.

However, her given name was not Bridget.

Married on the third instant at St David’s Church by RevW Bedford, Alexander Duthie Esq, commander of the ship Bengal Merchant, to Sarah Wilkins, eldest daughter of R W Giblin esq, Master of the King’s Orphan School, Van Diemen’s Land.
Sat 27 Sept 1828. Hobart Town Courier

Birth. At sea on board the Bengal merchant, Capt Alexander DUTHIE, ten days previous to the ship’s arrival in the English Channel, Mrs DUTHIE , daughter of Mr Giblin, master of King’s male orphan school of this place, of a son.
1st May 1830. Hobart Town Courier

Sarah Wilkins DUFFIE died in 1855 in Tasmania aged 50 years and is buried New Town Congregational, Hobart.

Sue, that’s interesting.  It seems the ‘Bengal Merchant’ dropped convicts at VDL and then continued to Sydney.  Perhaps there were other passengers on board from VDL to Sydney including Bridget DUFFY and I’m getting my wires crossed with the Captains wife.... I’m trying to give the online tree the benefit of the doubt.

I still don’t think the years fit though.  Will be interesting to see what JM comes back with.

Charles WOOLFORD originally in the 3rd regiment of foot, then discharged after the end of the Napoleonic wars … then re enlisted in Ireland into 39th Regiment, 10th Company .  *(see Michaeel Keenan bio material above) …  enlisted for 14 years at Buttevant, Cork, Ireland in March 1825.  Came to NSW in 1827, sent as garrison to Emu Plains NSW March 1828 then Parramatta August 1828 then Port Macquarie September 1828, and discharged with gratuity 30 June 1832.    Source Australian Joint Copying Project, Pay Lists…

I am still to do any looking up further for info from the military clues above, particularly in case he was in Tasmania…  but err,  I need to unpack .....  and organise some real life stuffs ....

Charles WOOLFORD originally in the 3rd regiment of foot, then discharged after the end of the Napoleonic wars … then re enlisted in Ireland  and came to NSW with the 3rd Regiment (who relieved the 48th)  *(see Michaeel Keenan bio material above) …  so he had re- enlisted for 14 years at Buttevant, Cork, in  Ireland in March 1822.  Came to NSW in 1827, and transferred into the 39th Regiment when that regiment relieved the 3rd.  Then sent as garrison to Emu Plains NSW March 1828 then Parramatta August 1828 then Port Macquarie September 1828, and discharged with gratuity 30 June 1832.    Source Australian Joint Copying Project, Pay Lists…  [/s]

He was a Private in the 3rd Regiment,  enlisted 16 Sept 1813, into Company 3.
Arrived in Sydney NSW 25 December 1822, with the 3rd Reg, Company 10
to Liverpool NSW 25 September 1823
Hobart VDL  March 1824
Cox's River NSW March 1826
Bathurst NSW Sept 1826 to Oct 1827
and transferred from the 3rd Reg to the 39th Reg 24 October 1827 ....
