Would anyone be able to help with my Stanbury ancestors?
We have William Stanbury born c1785 unknown location. Moves to Portsea and has children there. Son William is born around 1816, unknown mother.
Elder William married Ann Weable in Portsea (or Eling) and they have more children.
All the children's names I have so far are, William 1816ish, Susanna 1818, John 1821, Ann 1824, George 1826, Mary 1826.
Not sure how I have George and Mary both born 1826?
John has an interesting story according to a tree on Ancestry. He moved to London, married, but that didn't work out and he moved to Devon (or Cornwall) and had a common law wife there.
William the elder is on the 1841 census as a widower in Portsea living with daughter Mary.
William the younger moves to London and marries Isabella Ingram. and is my ancestor,
William the elder was in the 1841 census still in Portsea, a widower living with his daughter Mary.
We have a DNA link to the Fewings line. There are other potential DNA matches for Stanbury that I have yet to explore. One of them seemed to go to a totally different Stanbury line that comes from John Stanbury and Susanna Bevan in Lifton, Devon. And I've just noticed that William 1785 has children named John and Susanna? The tree I saw for John Stanbury and Susanna Bevan said they had a son in Lifton about 1788, which would fit with our one...but they shouldn't connect to Fewings?
I'm still going through DNA matches but I think we've also matched to the line of a Thomas Stanbury born in the Channel Islands, and I think, iirc, his line went to America.
