I've hit an odd record and a bit of a brick wall. I've been following family lines back from a Jane Elizabeth Lomax (b. 9th May 1887, baptised 31st Jan 1888 in Mayfield, Derbyshire and then seemingly again on 26th June 1889 in Attercliffe, Yorkshire) Her parents are Edward Lomax and Agnes.
In 1891 I can find a family in Geasbrough, Rotherham, Yorkshire, which consists of:
Edward Lomax Head Married Male 43 1848 -
Agnes Lomax Wife Married Female 43 1848 - Duffield, Derbyshire,
Jane E Lomax Daughter - Female 3 1888 - Staffordshire, England
Edward Lomax Son - Male 0 1891 - Yorkshire, England
Which seems to match the birth record of Jane Elizabeth Lomax well
In 1901 I can find them again, this time in Attercliffe, Sheffield:
Edward Lomax Head Married Male 48 1853 Manchester, Lancashire
Agnes Lomax Wife Married Female 44 1857 Duffield, Yorkshire
May Lomax Daughter Single Female 16 1885 Mayfield, Derbyshire
Jane E Lomax Daughter Single Female 13 1888 Mayfield, Derbyshire,
Edward Lomax Son Single Male 7 1894 Masbrough, Yorkshire
Ellen Lomax Daughter Single Female 6 1895 Sheffield, Yorkshire
Weirdly, Edward and Agnes don't appeared to have aged much. I know people's ages can be a bit flexible, but Agnes is only recorded as a year older. Despite this, I think they're the same people.
There are very few marriage records between Edward Lomaxes and Agneses, and only one that makes sense:
Edward Lomax & Agnes Wilson, 25th December 1873, Mayfield, Staffordshire
Edward's father: James Lomax
Agnes' father: Joseph Rogers (??)
When I look at the image itself, Joseph Rogers has a line drawn through it. Is this a mistake or mistranscription? Was Agnes actually illegitimate, and the father they wrote in was a mistake?
I have searched for 'Agnes Wilson' and 'Agnes Rogers' pre 1873, but can't find anything that makes sense. Can anyone help?
