John BEALE was born about 1820 in Cloghran, Dublin, Ireland. He married Mary McDONALD (year unknown) and in Dublin in 1844 he married Margaret KERR, who had previously been married to James George ROGERS. On 10 November 1845 he had a son John BEALE in Cloghran, Dublin, and on 1 July 1848 he had a daughter Sarah BEALE, also in Cloghran (there is a suggestion that he had two more daughters, Rebecca and Rachael BEALE, both born in 1850 and died in 1859, but that's doubtful). In 1849 he migrated to Australia on the ship Stag and by 1878 he was living in a house called 'Shelton' in Keilor, Victoria, Australia (which may or may not be the one in which his son subsequently lived and in which he died). There is a poorly-evidenced suggestion that John's father was Benjamin BEALE of Cloghran and his mother Sarah SLATER. By the way, the name 'Shelton' was used as a property name by other family members, suggesting some tie to that region of Dublin.
