Looking for information on a J Scally no 10 Commons Street

Hello all,

I have been  trying for years to find out any information on a Mr J.Scally, Dublin without any success

He is mentioned in a Witness Statement no 1409 made by my great Uncle, Thomas Duffy

The relevant paragraph -

" As all our section lived on the North side of the city we made directly to the South Quays and commandeered a rowing boat normally used for running ropes from ships to the quay wall
The boat was equipped with oars and rowlocks. We rowed the boat across the river to the ferry steps at Commons Street, where an old friend - Mr J. Scally of no 10 Commons Street, and the Silloth & Isle of Mam Shipping Company, helped us by rowing the boat back to it's normal mooring at the South Quay, and we walked back home via Butt Bridge "

I have checked the census but can trace no records

Any help would be most appreciated

What date is this from?

Have you looked at census close to where your Thomas Duffy was living at the time?

There's a J Scally born 1848 Dublin.

Presume this is a War of Independence witness statement so from about 1918 to 1922.
I don't see any Scally on Commons St. in the 1915 Electoral rolls.
Number 10 looks like it could be a boarding house. Quite a few people listed with different letters after the 10.

It is from the War of Independence and refers to actions carried out on Sunday 21st November, 1920

The Silloth Company gets mentioned again in James Corrigan's statement, when a fireman on one of their ships helped, doesn't give the man's name.

Have come across the name Scully before, and it could have been taken down incorrectly by the Bureau Of Military Pensions, but my great uncle Thomas seems pretty clear on the address

Checked the 1901 census - Jeremiah Scully - occupation - clerk - corn store

Checked the 1911 census - Jeremiah Scully - occupation - clerk in warehouse

Edward Scully looks interesting - brother of Jeremiah Scully - occupation - Ship Stevedore

Need to check address

I printed off the portal inspection order, great information ref - Dublin for the Silloth & Isle of Man Steamers - entered from Commons Street, exit at Custom House Quay, is there a map I can view to accompany the Inspection Order ?

I also tried checking the Isle & Silloth web site and asked if there were any records of former employees but to no avail
