George has been a brick wall of mine for a very long but after receiving my DNA results last year, I’ve been working through my matches slowly but surely. One DNA cousin of mine stands out in particular as he is appears to be the great grandson of a lady named Emily Hercomb, born around 1836 in Uley in Gloucestershire. Not only that but he is also a DNA match with a cousin of mine who also happens to be directly descended from George Hercomb. So I have the right line.
I’ve looked into this further and it seems that Emily Hercomb was the daughter of Jesse Hercomb and his wife Elizabeth. Jesse is the son of Tobit and Ruth Hercomb AND had a brother named Thomas Hercomb, a tailor. MY George Hercomb claimed that his father was Thomas Hercomb, a tailor, when he was married in 1855.
Despite everything, I still can’t find any paper evidence that George Hercomb was the son of Thomas - besides his marriage certificate.
