I have been taking advantage of the free records during this special weekend, and have a couple of questions regarding my husbands grandad named above.

He was born in Woking , Surrey in 1881, he attested to the queens surrey regiment on the 18th February 1897 then if I am reading it correct he was discharged for misconduct 4 days later .

The second record I have is in 1916 a tribunal which seems to focus on his occupation not sure of the outcome of that.

If anyone can help I would be grateful.

The first one is him joining the milita (part time soldiering) and being dismissed.  There is no record as to what the misconduct was.


The tribunals are the hearings of pleas on his behalf by his employer that he should not be conscripted.  In December 1916 (3rd from the top) he gave up as the record is marked "withdrawn". 
Presumably he was later conscripted but I find no service record, not unusual as 60% were destroyed by bombing in WW2.
