Marriage Look Up Request - St John, Newcastle - HAGGERSTON m WALES
« on: Thursday 08 November 18 14:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for the marriage entry for William HAGGERSTON m Margaret WALES on 3 or 30 July 1756 at St John, Newcastle upon Tyne please.

Hoping there might be some additional information to help me make progress with that side of the family.

Best wishes,

Carole

I note that one tree on A....y has the HAGGERSTON side of the family back to Durham 1643.
It might be worth posting what info. you are looking for as records in the period often recorded he married her.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Thank you the info re the tree online. Will check it out.
I was hoping there might be more information other than he married her - otp, bach/spins or witnesses but is the marriage date too early for that?

It's unlkely that there will be additional information from that date but I can have a look at the record for you on Wednesday.

No, not too early for that. 1754 is when that happens.

jonw65 is talking about Hardwickes Marriage Act so, yes, rethinking the date, there should be witnesses and a note of the parish they were living in at the time.

Sorry if we got your hopes up but, like many of his compatriots, it seems that the might of English law held no sway with the vicar of St. John.  The marriage entry simply reads
"Wm Haggerston & Margaret Wales"

I can at least confirm that they married on the third and not the thirtieth.
