I am trying to find the christening of John Hopcroft/hopcraft.
I think that he may have come from Fritwell in oxfordshire.

He married in 1739 in Handborough to Ann Green.

Any help would be apprieciated.

Have you tried the Oxfordshire Family History Society.

I have found their search service to be very efficient and CHEAP!

Try looking under Hobcroft as wel;l. John Hobcroft christened Fritwell 6th April1713 son of Benjamin Hobcroft and Anne Harvey

I have Hopcrofts in my tree from Cropredy/Bourton/Deddington area and have found them listed as Hopcraft as well.

If you want a list of the Hopcrofts I have please let me know, would be happy to help

Dear Classic,
I am a descendant of the Hopcroft family. They were first called HOBCROFT, then ... HOBCRAFT, HOPCRAFT to HOPCROFT. All my ancestors came from Fritwell in Oxfordshire, the last descendant (my grandmother) was born in Basford, Nottinghamshire.

I have your John (his brother was called Benjamin, my ancestor) on my family tree web site.

John HOPCROFT
Born: 6th June 1713 Fritwell, Oxon.
Father: Benjamin Hopcroft 1762 - 1742
Mother: Anne Harvey 1676 - 1734

Please contact me to confirm that we have the same John.
I will send you all details.

I also have Hobs, Hops, Crofts and Crafts: and combinations thereof- the names seem fairly interchangeable  :)

Mine are mainly based in Deddington  - with a few spouses dropping in from  Heyford, Dun Tews and various parts of Northants here and there.

The oldest I have is William Hopcroft (1750) and Catherine (probably Churchill?) (1754)? Out of interest has anyone got anything going back past  that date? 

I also have a lot of Southams, Fathers, Barnacles etc in the mix
