Hello again,
I have received some information from an older family member that William was discharged early because of a stomach problem. He was told he needed an operation but refused as other soldiers had died following this procedure.
Because of his refusal, he was declined a war pension.
Could this be true or a story to tell the family. ?

Your man  was discharged 8/11/17 due to sickness.
Whether he received a pension (or not) would be down to if the reason was attributable or non-attributable.
ie. was the reason as a result of or caused by his war service.
Obviously in his case it was deemed non-attributable.
Whether he agreed to an operation or not would not be a factor.
