I am grateful for a bright suggestion from a Belfast Central Library colleague - is "Smy Lodge" a mistranscription of "Ivy Lodge"? There is an Ivy Lodge near Newry, just inside County Down, and just plausibly in "Mourne", connected with the Swanzy and Corry families who would have been familiar with Rev. Dickson. Does anyone know about this house's earlier history, up to 1819? Note that a different Dr Dickson (Robert, the GP grandfather of historian Charles Dickson) is a few miles up the road at "Woodville" or "Wood Vale", and I suppose he is a red herring. Thanks for any information - and a good New Year.
