I know of my family members ( Ryan ) in this pub in both the 1901 and 1911 census .
My understanding is that the site of the pub was on the Feeder side of the Kingsland Road bridge as it approaches Silverthorn Lane ( recollections of an elderly relative whose grandparents ran the pub ) .
Recently I was told that the pub was knocked down at some stage pos . the 60s ?
I've checked Old Maps online to see if shown , but no evidence to suggest if this site was correct .
Any thoughts , past knowledge of the actual site as I am going to visit the area soon to do a little research .
I have checked the Lost Pubs site where there is some info . but not of the actual location .
Appreciate nearly 7 years have elapsed since this post, but if you read this I thought you'd be interested to know that there appears to be a painting of the Victoria Tavern on
https://maps.bristol.gov.uk/kyp/. I found it whilst examining the various map layers for traces of my own ancestors' pub. They owned and ran the Royal Oak, which from what I can tell was directly opposite the Victoria Tavern on Kingsland Road, next to the tunnel.
If you click the filter for 'Community layer', you'll see a clickable green diamond over the site of The Victoria. This is a painting of the pub, by Gerald Cains. You'll see that the tunnel and two sets of steps shown match the features on the map. My research indicates that my own ancestors' pub, the Royal Oak, was at the top of the steps you can see in the foreground - tantalisingly just out of view.
Hopefully this is of some use.
