Hiya Ray,
Just wondering if you could chase up a lead you gave me a few weeks ago.
You gleaned from the 1851 census my gggranfather Alfred Watts age 1 and his parents William and Levenia. Also you gave me Alfreds big brother, William aged 3.
HO107/1592 192 p.11 Schedule 26.
I have found in the 1881 census from lds a William Watts married to Letitia in Station Road, Cheam RG11 0757/72 p.25. His age appears to match.
Is there any chance you could look for him to see if he is the right chap possibly and to see if he had any offspring? I guess what i'm trying to do at the moment is to work forward in time as I'm quite into the idea of finding living rellies.
Also, if it's not too cheeky, from the original info you sent me I notice that William and Levinia appear to be married 13 years before the first child shown was born. Is it possible to check for other siblings in years around this? It just seems unlikely they would have waited so long to breed.
Many thanks in advance Ray
Cheers

Hello Ray,

Thanks for your incredibly generous offer. If you have the time, could you check the baptism registers for Witley for Mary Wickes born approx. 1809/1810. I'm sorry I can't be more exact - the date info. is from the 1851 census (her name is from her son's birth cert).

I've checked the catalogue for the Surrey History Centre, and it gave the following refs. for the registers - I don't know if it's useful, but I thought I'd better include it in case it was!

Item ref: WIT/3/1
Baptism register
Date(s): 1753-1812
[Starts: 17530101]
[Ends: 18121231]

Item ref: WIT/3/2
Baptism register.  Including at back of book memorandum about large fish caught in Witley ponds, 1824-1834
Date(s): 1805-1832
[Starts: 18050101]
[Ends: 18321231]

I'm incredibly irritated with Mary - I only found out where she was from 5 months after I moved from Surrey to Scotland!

Many thanks,

Hannah

A while ago I was researching my half brothers family for him.  I got stuck on his dads paternal side - very frustrating as it is 'recent'.

Looking for a baptism of a Frederick Alfred TAYLOR.  He was born in Chertsey on 16 Aug 1912.  His birth certificates state his parents as Elijah TAYLOR (farm labourer) and Louisa TANNER nee TURNER.

I had no luck on free sites - looking for any information you can provide.

Many thanks

Hello Ray, When you are next at the centre could you please look at a baptism record for Sarah Bennett, sept 1810 St John the Baptist Church Croydon.  Anyting else on this family would be a bonus.
Thankyou so much

Hiya Twink,

Cannot add much more to what you have given me. I can confirm That Frederick Alfred TAYLOR was the son of Elijah and Louisa and that he was born on 16 August 1912.

He was baptised at St Peters Church, Chertsey on 22 September 1912. Elijah Taylor was a labourer and they lived at Bell Corner. (if you know Chertsey, that's the cross roads near the level crossing).

Sheryl,

Records for areas of Surrey that are now in London are held at the London Metropolitan Archives. I am only able to visit the Surrey History Centre.

All the records you have listed are held at the LMA.

The records at the LMA are split into ecclesiatical parishes. If you can work out the likely church they may have married in, it may help any researcher that goes up there for you.

Alternatively, you'll just have to order the certificates @ £7 each.

Re: LOOK UP OFFER: SURREY surname DORKINGS
« Reply #53 on: Saturday 18 December 04 14:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi Ray

I am trying to locate Christmas DORKINGS born 1807.
I believe that the 1871 census for SURREY has him as being born
in HUNTINGDONSHIRE but I have not been able to get access
to the census without incurring a significant cost.
I would like to find out where in HUNTINGDONSHIRE he was born and
where he was living in SURREY and with whom.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
