I can't find a marriage for Joseph Colquhoun,Calhoun, etc. anywhere in Ireland (there were lots of Protestants all over Ireland, including Dublin) so perhaps Scotland is possibly where he was born. Bear in mind that to a New Zealander a Belfast or N.I. accent might be very similar to a 'Scottish' accent. However he could have been born anywhere in Ireland but picked up his 'Scottish accent' if he lived there as a child. At this point it seems as thought anything is possible.

Best to start with N.Z. records then work back through any and all records.

Still searching a few things...

An Irish civil marriage record wouldn't have given this detail-
Was married to Ada Rosina Bishop 7th June 1900. His parents are listed as Andrew Colquhoun and Annie Colquhoun nee Smith.

I am interested in contacting descendants of ...

Hello Gaye

A point to bear in mind, is that Rootschat is for tracing dead ancestors for family history.

Rootschat does not trace and name individuals still living.

JOSEPH COLQUHOUN was born in Donegal Ireland, a son of Andrew Colquhoun (1833-1903) & Nancy 'Annie' Smith (1834-1898). Andrew & Annie married about 1851 in Donegal.
On the 29 May 1879 they, and their family, boarded the ship "City of Agra" in London (Captain Young) and sailed for Auckland. They arrived on 8 Sep 1879, the passage taking 105 days.
(the above link shows their children, all born in  Manorcunningham or Ballyhoorisky, Donegal, who emigrated with them)

Joseph first married ADA ROSINA BISHOP (1884-1964) on 7 June 1900

After her separation from Joseph Colquhoun (sometime between 1910-1913), Ada had a de facto relationship with Daniel Joseph Donovan (1883-1917)
Ada Rosina Colquhoun then had a further 2 children:
* 1914 - Nellie Rose Colquhoun (father not named)
* 1915 - 1995 Daniel John Colquhoun (father not named)
On 15 Nov 1916 Daniel Joseph Donovan embarked for war. He served as Corporal 33023, 10th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion, G Company, New Zealand Rifle Brigade. He listed Ada Rose Colquhoun as his next of kin, living at 57 Vermont St., Ponsonby and his son as Daniel John Donovan of Mt Eden, Auckland.
