Edward Couchman HUNTER.   b.1853 in St Pancras, m.1875 to Ellen Blanche HOUGHTON. Both in 1881 census. Possibly sailed together to Sydney 1883.
Thereafter, he has vanished. No trace of death in Ancestry anywhere (unless he is one of seven Edward HUNTERs in BMD, who died in various (unexpected) parts of the UK.

and daughter Emily Doris Hunter married 5 Apr 1904 Hackney to George Alexander Sawyer -she names Edward Couchman Hunter occ Iron Merchant as her father no mention of deceased and one of the witnesses was Ellen Blanche Hunter

Thank you. Emily Doris was my grandmother. Her father Edward Couchman HUNTER is proving a brickwall. Was with his wife in 1881 census but may then have emigrated. I can't think of any other tools beyond Ancestry - and Rootschat that I have just joined!

On the ship Dharwar which arrived in Sydney 1st October 1883, both Edward and Ellen are listed as passengers. Their ages are a couple years 'out', but it may be a valid result in my search...
