I've just been taking names off the census sheets to try and sort my families out and I'm beginning to think they were all related in Weardale especially around the St John's Forest area, when they were Lead Mining.

My families are Milburn, Smith, Elliott, Lowe, Kidd, Ellwood, Laidler, Peart.

As someone said, they used surnames for christian names.....I have Watson Peart, Emerson Lowe, Emerson Elliott and my g grandfather was Laidler Milburn...........that's what comes with close knit communities when the children seemed to be more in relatives houses than there own

Wow! you will have a job sorting them out. MILBURN about 80, SMITH about 300,  PEART about 350 or so. I do have the 1861 Wear Valley in alphabetical order if it helps.

I have JONATHAN WALTON FORSTER born 1812 in Weardale.  I'm guessing that his mother's maiden name was Walton, his father was Ralph. Anyone have anything on this family please?

Hi I'm trying to find out my family tree and can go no further than a Stephen Maddison born abt 1730 of Stanhope. i cant find out who his father was as there is no birth cert.
If anybody could help it would really be appreciated.
