Hello John
I wondering if you can help me. My greatgrand father was Thomas George Stephen Stroud, born Littlemore Oxford 1879. His father Thomas M Stroud and his Aunt Elizabeth Stroud both born in Wootton him 1855 and her 1844. The trail goes cold, no entries in the 1861 census. I am wondering if Thomas M Stroud is related to the Stroud you are looking for.

Kevin - are Thomas and Elizabeth just missing on the 1861 census? do you have Elizabeth in 1871 (think I've found her as a housemaid in Brompton, Kensington, London) Let me know if you want the details  :)

I am unable to find either Thomas M or his sister on the 1861 census and therefore cannot proceed further back at this stage.

Yes please the information would be welcome.

Interesting the 1881 census has her living with her brother an Inn Keeper at Cowley, Oxford, where she is described as Occ: Formerly Dom Ser. So that may well tie up there.
thanks Kevin

I realise in my last posting I failed to say wootton oxford as place of birth.
