Buried laws amendment act

I have recently been checking church records for the deaths of two babies who died when they were three and two days old the reference in the records says certified under the burial laws amendment act 1880. We know that both children we baptised and buried in the churchyard but we can't find their graves.
After looking up the amendment act my cousin and I think that the children were buried in an open grave at the time of their death and that they didn't have a service but that the minister would have blessed and prayed over them at the grave side.
 Could anybody have any other suggestions  as to what we think.

I have heard that sometimes babies were put in a coffin with a woman, I know for sure that it is for still born babies, but not 100% sure about babies a few days old

Has the church got any records of burials around the time you are looking for, might be worth a look

Hi Louise maud I have looked in the records it just lists the date of buriels but no grave number and yes when the first baby a boy died their was about four other burials two of whom were women when the little girl,a buriel was recorded there was only one a male so we presumed she would of been buried in that grave.
The frustrating part for us is I just wish they had put the grave number on the records.

It's brief, only 16 short clauses. Any one of the first 14 may have applied, depending on circumstances. For instance one clause relates to burials of paupers, another to "riotous behaviour".
