He was discharged from Chelsea hospital in 1800, unfit for active service as he had been wounded in 1796 in the West Indies. It looks like he joined the 3rd Royal Veteran Battalion after that. 1st child Sarah b. 1804 at St. Lawrence, Jersey. The Kent marriage could be them as I have found no other to match the time frame unless there wasn't one. I just thought it was a bit long from 1797 (if he was not in hospital) till 1804 when Sarah was born.

Thank you both very much for your replies.
The only thing that bothers me about the marriage at St. Lawrence, Thanet for George and Hester is that I am not sure he was in the country in 1797. He was wounded in the west Indies in 1796? and discharged at Chelsea Hospital in 1800, unfit for active service.
She is the only Hester that fits that time frame.

Lorayne

Could you please give a link to the record which shows him being discharged from Chelsea. Too many George Knight records to wade through looking for it

His records are at FindMyPast British Army records. There are 3 for him. 2 for Royal Veterans Batt. and 1 for Inniskilling 27th of Foot. Discharged from the 27th of Foot in 1800 and Discharged from the Royal Vet. Batt. in 1814. At Jersey. I don't think he was in the country in 1797, but I may be wrong.

Born Uley, Dursley, Gloucestershire. B. 1774 or 1 says 1754 but it is the same person. Quite detailed, however they do vary slightly, but obviously the same man.

Thank you
I think that the record dated 14 July 1800 indicates that he has was discharged from the Army on that date as he was injured and not fit for service.
It states that he is discharged and recommended as a worthy object for the Benefit of Chelsea Hospital - In other words he has been recommended to receive a pension from Chelsea Hospital ie a Chelsea Pensioner

It looks as though Inniskilling 27 Foot were in France around the time he was serving
