O'Hanlon/Hanratty

Hi All

Searching for information on my great great grand-parents James O'Hanlon born 1839 Bridge St Dundalk Louth married an Ann/e Hanratty but not in St Patricks (already checked that out) they settled in Dundalk and had  their children there but would info on Ann/e Hanratty if possible

James' parents were a James O'Hanlon and Ellen Duffy married in Dundalk

There is a published tree which has James marrying Ellen Murtaugh in New York about 1870.

This looks like the emigration record for the O’Hanlon family.

What information do you have re James’ birth?

Thank you heywood but not my O'Hanlons, James was born in Dundalk also his two brothers Charles and Joseph, his father married Ellen Duffy as I got the record fronm the church records but unfortunately no marriage recorded for his marriage to Ann/e Hanratty,

Yes that is the one in the church records October 1839.

That family also have a Charles.

The James O Hanlon record is listed as number 22 in the parish records for St Patricks Dundalk, mother Ellen Duffy and father James o'Hanlon  address is listed as Bridge St and this is the same address for Ellen Duffy when she married James on the 28th June 1835, I think this was where she lived as it is recorded in the parish records

Other siblings of James are Charles I think born 1836 and Joseph born between 1837 and 1838

It maybe that the family tree is wrong, I don’t know but it shows that family as Famine emigrants in 1849 aboard The Unicorn 

Did your James or Ann survive to 1901 census?

I see on your other post that there is a Bernard in your family. Was he the grandson of James and Ann?

James and Anne had 10 children all born in Dundalk, their son James lived in 5 St Marys Road he was a dealer in iron or similiar his son was called Bernard and yes that was James and Annes grandson he was killed in Dublin in 1921, O'Hanlon Park is called after him I got the newspaper clipping from the time to verify this but unfortunatley have no photos of any O'Hanlon except one who was Bernards sisters as they were school teachers in Knockbridge, Peg or Margaret O'Hanlon was the girls school princple back in the day and Bridget her sister also taught there.

I am off out now but it is James who married Ann that was born abt 1839, wasn’t it?

It is that birth I am querying as there is the conflicting ‘evidence’ (in the tree and in NY) that James, son of James and Ellen, emigrated as a child.

If this were true, then your James would not be the one born 1839 in Dundalk.

I just don’t want you to be following the wrong person.

Bernard’s family are born in various places and Rose, his mother, is with the children but not her husband in censuses.

I wondered if they were not Dundalk originally.

Yes I know all about Rose and James they were married in Glasgow and I have all their info.

Its James born in 1839 in Dundalk that married Anne Hanratty that I need info on, according to St Patricks records James and Ellen's family only had 3 sons born between 1836 and 1839.
