What information were you hoping that the death certificate would provide? This looks like it might be the person you were looking for, although it's a shame that it doesn't mention what town he was born in (in Switzerland) and it doesn't show the name of the informant (person who reported the death, which is sometimes a spouse). Also odd that apparently the newspaper doesn't have this obit, but I guess that this sometimes happens.https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/1172/vrmmo1833_c10494-0963?pid=12634462&backurl=https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?ti%3D0%26indiv%3Dtry%26db%3Dmodeaths%26h%3D12634462&treeid=&personid=&hintid=&usePUB=true&usePUBJs=true********************************************************

http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases/death.html#copiesHave you tried requesting a death search from the above? It looks like they've completed the entry for Clinton Co. deaths 1877 - 1915.
Have you tried the Ask a Librarian at Morris Library, the Archive Depository?http://libguides.lib.siu.edu/askalibrarian
